Dear friends,
It was good, really good, to be back with you this past Sunday after my time away. There is something about walking back into our sanctuary, seeing familiar faces, hearing the hum of conversation before the service, that feels a bit like coming home after a long trip. I am especially grateful to Rev. Ruth-Anne Marley and Bill Pringle for stepping in to lead worship while I was gone, and to Ji Won Baxter who, as always, kept St. George’s humming in the office, on Sundays, and with the beautiful gift of music as well as caring for our children in Jr. Church. I am also thankful for our Corporation whose steady and dependable leadership continues to bless our community.
This Sunday we return to our summer series, The Rise and Fall of the Kings of Israel, with the classic David and Goliath story, the one you probably first heard in Sunday school. There is a depth to it that is easy to miss if we only remember the flannelgraph version. We will be looking at what it has to say about where and in whom our trust ultimately rests.
Our upper hall has been freshly painted and I have included a few photos in this post so you can see how it is looking. We are now working to create a warm, classic, heritage space that feels both inviting and in keeping with the beauty of our church. We are looking for green leafy plants and large cozy rugs that fit this vision. We ask that any contributions be thoughtful pieces that truly suit the warm, classic, heritage style we are creating. Think of it as helping to furnish a space with care and beauty, not as simply clearing out a storage closet. If you have something you think would be a good fit, please send a photo to info@stgeorgebanff.com before bringing it in. If you would like to give financially towards the upper hall budget, simply make a note of it in your regular giving.
Thank you for your generosity and for the way you care for our shared life together. I am glad to be back among you.
In Christ,
Seth+
