Following Jesus in Real Life

Following Jesus in Real Life

18 May at 10am

What if the voice you're resisting is the one trying to set you free?

This Sunday at St. George's, we're exploring a moment when even one of Jesus’ closest followers had to unlearn what he thought faithfulness looked like. In week 3 of our Eastertide series Following Jesus in Real Life, we’ll ask what it means to truly listen for the Spirit in a world full of noise and how we can know it’s really Jesus we’re following.

Join us Sunday at 10am for worship and stay after for coffee and connection. There’s a place for you here.

Celebrant:

Rev. Seth Enriquez

Readings:

Acts 11:1–18; John 13:31–35 (Read now)

Hymns:

Holy God We Praise Thy Name (Listen now)

Before the Throne of God Above (Listen now)

Tethered to the Cross (Listen now)

What songs are shaping your faith right now? Take a listen to the ones we're singing this season on our church playlist on Spotify!

What a night! Thanks to Zyka Banff, we served a record 375 meals. They covered the full cost of the evening and brought incredible food. We’re so grateful for their generosity.

The menu included spring rolls, fresh salad with mint and tamarind chutney, coconut curry, pancharathna dhal, and butter chicken. It was a feast.

We received $503.70 in cash and $142.25 online, for a total of $645.95. Thank you to everyone who gave, helped, and joined us. You make it all happen.

With love,
The Banff Food & Friends Team

What voice is shaping your life: Jesus or your own?

Rev. Seth shares the story of Tabitha, the only woman called a disciple in the New Testament. Her life invites us to rethink what it means to follow Jesus in a world that says follow yourself.

Flower Decorations for Spring/Summer 2025

Get ready for a blooming summer at St. George’s! We’re thrilled to announce the return of our Flower Power Budget for Spring/Summer 2025 and we need your help.

Let’s come together to plant an array of beautiful flowers at the front of our church, transforming St. George’s into a welcoming and joyful sight for everyone who passes by. With your support, we can make our church shine with the beauty of nature this summer.

To give directly to the flower budget, you can use any of the online giving tools on our Giving Page (click the button below), or contribute by cash or cheque in the offering plate. Just include a note in the memo line or on your envelope so we can designate your gift to the flower fund.

Thank you for helping St. George’s bloom!

The Weight of Small Things

The Weight of Small Things

Blog by Rev. Seth

There is a moment in Boyz n the Hood that has never really left me. Furious Styles takes his teenage son and his friend to a street corner in Compton, where a sign offers to buy local homes for cash. Around them is the aftermath of systemic neglect: liquor stores, gun shops, poverty, and gang violence. Furious explains how gentrification works, not just the displacement of people, but the erasure of a culture. And then he delivers a line that feels less like dialogue and more like diagnosis: The best way to destroy a people is to stop them from reproducing...

- Why We Doubt Everything is a thoughtful reflection on why Gen Z struggles with trust, and it invites us to consider how faith can still flourish in a culture of constant doubt.

 - These excerpts from David Bently Hart's The Beauty of the Infinite invite us to contemplate how the boundless love of God is revealed in Christ's suffering and resurrection, offering a transformative perspective on human brokenness and divine grace.

 - Faith Torn Down to the Studs offers a compassionate guide for those supporting loved ones through faith deconstruction, emphasizing the importance of empathy and patience in navigating doubt.
