Following Jesus in Real Life

Following Jesus in Real Life

18 May at 10am

Do we find ourselves trusting in our own image or His?

This Sunday at St. George's, we're exploring when Paul chooses to risk his image and reputation, in hopes of winning a heart to Christ. In week 4 of our Eastertide series Following Jesus in Real Life, we’ll ask what it means to truly prioritize witness of the Holy Spirit over what others may have to say or think about it. For Jesus risked more than His reputation: He gave His life. If He loves the people around us that much, we can risk being misunderstood to make Him known.

Join us Sunday at 10am for worship and stay after for coffee and connection. There’s a place for you here.

A happy Victoria Day and time-and-a-half day! Many thanks to Chef Paul Brown working tirelessly in the kitchen to enjoy a delicious meal, with a total of 144 meals served. We were treated to an amazing Macaroni & Cheese, served with spring salad and garlic toast. It was a quiet evening, and we all relaxed and feasted to our hearts' content!

We also received $192.82 in cash donations and $30.00 online, for a total of $210.82. Thank you to everyone who showed up, brought their smiles and spent time in community with one another. Thank you for making Food & Friends what it is!

Flower Decorations for Spring/Summer 2025

Get ready for a blooming summer at St. George’s! We’re thrilled to announce the return of our Flower Power Budget for Spring/Summer 2025 and we need your help.

Let’s come together to plant an array of beautiful flowers at the front of our church, transforming St. George’s into a welcoming and joyful sight for everyone who passes by. With your support, we can make our church shine with the beauty of nature this summer.

To give directly to the flower budget, you can use any of the online giving tools on our Giving Page (click the button below), or contribute by cash or cheque in the offering plate. Just include a note in the memo line or on your envelope so we can designate your gift to the flower fund.

Thank you for helping St. George’s bloom!

The Weight of Small Things

The Weight of Small Things

Blog by Rev. Seth

There is a moment in Boyz n the Hood that has never really left me. Furious Styles takes his teenage son and his friend to a street corner in Compton, where a sign offers to buy local homes for cash. Around them is the aftermath of systemic neglect: liquor stores, gun shops, poverty, and gang violence. Furious explains how gentrification works, not just the displacement of people, but the erasure of a culture. And then he delivers a line that feels less like dialogue and more like diagnosis: The best way to destroy a people is to stop them from reproducing...

WHAT WE'RE READING, LISTENING TO, AND WATCHING

Edifying content that has deeply informed our work this season!

- The Screwtape Letters C.S. Lewis' classic that helps us recognize the subtle ways we’re drawn away from God, offering sharp insight into spiritual struggle through wit, wisdom, and piercing truth.

- Wes Huff does it again. Watch this excellent interview from Christian apologist Wes Huff as he shares on the truth of Christianity on the FLAGRANT podcast.

- The Dark Night of Disenchantment offers a thoughtful reflection on finding God's presence not in extraordinary signs, but within the ordinary and disenchanted moments of our daily lives.

- Why We Doubt Everything is a thoughtful reflection on why Gen Z struggles with trust, and it invites us to consider how faith can still flourish in a culture of constant doubt.

 - These excerpts from David Bently Hart's The Beauty of the Infinite invite us to contemplate how the boundless love of God is revealed in Christ's suffering and resurrection, offering a transformative perspective on human brokenness and divine grace.

 - Faith Torn Down to the Studs offers a compassionate guide for those supporting loved ones through faith deconstruction, emphasizing the importance of empathy and patience in navigating doubt.

Following Jesus In Real Life - Sunday, May 18, 2025

What if the thing you’re clinging to in the name of faith is the very thing Jesus is asking you to release?

This week, Rev. Seth explores a moment when even Peter had to face the difference between loyalty and resistance. It's a message about mistaking assumptions for obedience, confusing love with cultural norms, and how Jesus keeps calling us beyond what feels safe into what is truly good.
